Australian designer Seb Brown approaches jewellery as both material and canvas, instinctively translating diverse inspirations into unisex, everyday pieces. His designs exist in a distinct liminal space between the familiar and the strange, the eternal and the fleeting, the ancient and the present. With off-kilter placements and unexpected proportions between stone and metal, each piece draws a second look, revealing something new over time.
Brown grew up in Apollo Bay, Victoria, where the wild coastline encouraged a sense of freedom and curiosity for natural forms—both of which carry through to his work today. He later studied communication design at RMIT in Melbourne, yet his lack of formal training in jewellery leaves room for spontaneity within an intuitive understanding of colour, scale, and layout.
Since establishing his studio in 2009, Brown has worked across all forms of jewellery, though his rings remain his most recognisable pieces. His unique design language is in constant motion: shifting from sharp, faceted structures, to fluid, organic forms, and eventually to his signature scattered-stone signets. He works both bespoke—designing custom-made pieces in conversation with clients—and across ready-to-wear collections.
Now based in Paris, where his second office is located, Brown’s headquarters remain in his Naarm/Melbourne showroom and workshop, where everything is crafted in-house. His team regularly embarks on sourcing trips, seeking out unique gemstones, conflict-free diamonds, and materials that align with the studio’s environmental and ethical values. Each piece is made using recycled gold and silver, and the studio operates with a near-zero waste approach.
